{"id":93,"date":"2023-02-08T10:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portarthur.org.au\/?page_id=93"},"modified":"2026-04-01T09:14:39","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T22:14:39","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/portarthur.org.au\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) was created in 1987 to preserve and maintain the Port Arthur Historic Site \u2013 a major Australian tourism destination and one of the country\u2019s most important heritage sites.<\/p>\n<p>In 2004, PAHSMA also became responsible for the <a href=\"http:\/\/coalmines.org.au\/\">Coal Mines Historic Site<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/femalefactory.org.au\/\">Cascades Female Factory Historic Site<\/a>. All three sites (known collectively as the Port Arthur Historic Sites) are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the eleven sites comprising the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property, which was inscribed in 2010.<\/p>\n<h2>Legislative framework<\/h2>\n<p>PAHSMA is a Government Business Enterprise and operates under the provisions of several principle acts of the Tasmanian State Parliament:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority Act 1987<\/li>\n<li>Government Business Enterprises Act 1995<\/li>\n<li>Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1995<\/li>\n<li>National Parks and Reserve Management Act 2002<\/li>\n<li>State Service Act 2000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>PAHSMA is committed to the aims and objectives of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2002 (the Act).
