{"id":494,"date":"2017-12-07T16:07:01","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T05:07:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/portarthur.org.au\/?page_id=494"},"modified":"2023-02-07T15:40:49","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T04:40:49","slug":"directions-port-arthur-site","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/portarthur.org.au\/what-to-do\/directions-port-arthur-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Directions to Port Arthur Historic site"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>From Hobart, take the Tasman Highway (A3) across the Tasman Bridge, past Hobart International Airport, and on to Sorell, 27 km south-east of Hobart.<\/li>\n<li>In Sorell, follow the signposts for turrakana\/Tasman Peninsula to continue on the Arthur Highway (A9).<\/li>\n<li>Continue for 30 km until you arrive in the township of Dunalley. Drive through town until you reach the bridge over the canal.<\/li>\n<li>Turn left onto the bridge and continue for another 44 km until you\u00a0see the turn off to\u00a0Port Arthur Historic Site on the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Driving tips<\/h5>\n<p><strong>Fill your car with fuel before your begin your journey.<\/strong>\u00a0 Port Arthur does have a service station and general store which is located less than 1km from the Historic Site, however most service stations in the region close before 6:00pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Check hire car restrictions.<\/strong> Some car rental companies have limitations on where you can drive. The Arthur Highway (A9) is a sealed road,\u00a0however many smaller roads on the Tasman Peninsula are unsealed or rough, so check your route and your hire agreement before you begin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch for wildlife.<\/strong> Native wildlife, including large wallabies and wombats, are abundant throughout Tasmania.\u00a0 Animals are most\u00a0active and\u00a0often encountered along the roadside at\u00a0dawn and dusk so best to take special care when driving at these times.<\/p>\n<p>Need more information?
